In the alpaca business, herdsires
receive the most hype. We believe you don't have to spend $2500-$5000 for stud fees
to be able to survive
in this business. All the genetic experts agree that blue ribbons do NOT
guarantee you a "blue ribbon" offspring. In fact, the same genetic
make up exists in the grand champion's ugly brother. Paying
stud fees can make good business sense. If you have that kind of
money to spend on outside breedings, go for it. It's tax deductible
and it is a great marketing tool. But if you're a small farm or
just getting started, you don't have to break the budget to breed
your females to quality males. Most farms, at one time or another,
will seek outside breedings to diversify their gene pool or to add a
particular trait a certain male may offer, such as color,
conformation improvements or to improve their herd's fleece, density,
crimp or softness. Here at Mager Mountain
Alpacas we feel we have some very nice boys and are willing to help
out a small farm with very reasonable rates or other compensations.
If you are in need of an outside breeding, we would be happy to help
you without paying for the hype.
